During a meeting in Cairo, FM Abdelatty and Rajoub underscored the necessity of Palestinian unity amidst the current challenges, according to a foreign ministry statement.
They also emphasised strengthening the role of the Palestinian Authority, which is based in Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, to achieve the aspirations of the Palestinian people.
During the meeting, FM Abdelatty outlined Egypt's efforts to engage with various parties to halt the war in the Gaza Strip, reach a ceasefire, and facilitate a prisoner swap between Hamas and Israel.
He further emphasised Egypt's steadfast rejection of any plans to displace the Palestinians from their land, reiterating Cairo's commitment to ensuring that humanitarian aid reaches Gaza without any hindrances.
Egypt's top diplomat also outlined Egypt's efforts to mobilise international support for the recognition of a Palestinian State and its diplomatic engagements with other nations to advocate for a permanent and just resolution to the Palestinian cause.
This resolution shall be based on the establishment of an independent Palestinian State over the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, according to the foreign ministry's statement.
The Egyptian FM also sought insights from Rajoub on the current situation, including the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the West Bank.
During the meeting, Rajoub presented an overview of the Palestinian situation, highlighting the challenges facing the Palestinian cause and potential strategies for addressing them in the coming stages.
He also commended Egypt for its significant and pivotal role in supporting the Palestinian cause and its efforts to address the crisis in Gaza and its humanitarian consequences.
Egypt, along with the US and Qatar, has been mediating indirect talks between Israel and Hamas to reach a ceasefire deal in the 10-month-old Israeli war in Gaza.
Since 7 October, Israel has killed and injured over 130,000 Palestinians, mostly children and women, damaged most of Gaza’s infrastructure, and displaced the majority of the population.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army has killed hundreds of Palestinians in the occupied West Bank since the start of the war on Gaza.
