Egypt possesses a robust surveillance and investigation system for epidemic diseases, the Ministry of Health and Population told the centre.
This system operates effectively towards early detection and monitoring of any epidemics that may inflict the country.
The ministry also highlighted that all necessary precautionary measures are being enforced at Egyptian airports, seaports, and land crossings.
These measures are specifically designed to prevent the entry of any epidemic diseases through travellers arriving from countries with infected areas.
Meanwhile, such travellers are thoroughly examined by the quarantine department to assess their health condition before they enter the country.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), cholera is an acute diarrhoeal disease that causes frequent and severe diarrhoea and can kill within hours if left untreated.
It predominantly affects people who lack access to safe water and adequate sanitation.
Researchers estimate that there are 1.3 to 4.0 million cases of cholera annually, resulting in 21,000 to 143,000 deaths worldwide.
Cholera can be successfully treated with oral rehydration solutions for mild cases, while severe cases require rapid treatment with intravenous fluids and antibiotics.
