A ministerial committee is studying a proposal to extend the working hours from 35 to 40 per five-day workweek, from 8am to 4pm, for government employees across the state, governorates, and public authorities.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has formed this committee to examine the proposal to stagger work hours within all the ministries moved to the New Administrative Capital.

The committee, chaired by a prime minister's advisory council representative, includes representatives from the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Interior, the Central Agency for Organization and Administration, and the Administrative Control Authority.

This move aims to implement multiple shifts to better manage the workflow.

The government is now applying a five-day 35-hour workweek for ministries, government departments, public authorities, and local administration units, with Fridays and Saturdays as official holidays.

Each entity's management determines the arrival and departure timing based on its work nature and ensures an appropriate number of employees are present on one or both official holidays, with this duty rotating among all employees.

The committee is expected to submit a report on its findings, recommendations, and implementation mechanisms by the end of October.

The head of the prime minister's advisory council will then present these recommendations to PM Madbouly, who will forward them to the cabinet for further review.

The action is part of the government's efforts to redesign the work environment in line with global changes and improve the quality of government performance.

These efforts include developing the organizational structure of ministries and government bodies, enhancing transparency and accountability, simplifying administrative procedures, and promoting digital transformation in public service delivery.

Additionally, the plan aims to develop human resources capabilities through intensive training programmes to improve employee efficiency and ensure more effective and speedy delivery of government services.

The committee may also consult experts and specialists to assist in its tasks.
