Cairo Metro Line 1, which stretches across 44 kilometres and connects 35 stations, serves as a lifeline for the city, transporting over 1.5 million passengers daily.

The project is scheduled to commence in October and is expected to be completed over 64 months.

OC holds a 35 percent stake in the project totalling around 800 million euros.

Several prominent international financial institutions, including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the European Investment Bank (EIB), and Agence Française de Développement (AFD), will fund the project.

OC and Colas Rail will lead the work of modernizing the electric power supply, catenary, and electromechanical systems in stations, tunnels, and on the rail track.

Meanwhile, Hitachi Rail will focus on upgrading essential components, like the signalling, control, and telecommunications infrastructure, to ensure the metro system’s enhanced safety and efficiency.

Furthermore, the consortium has committed to executing these extensive upgrades without disrupting the metro's daily operations.

The project aligns with Egypt's broader infrastructure development plans.

Orascom Construction is a Cairo-listed leading global engineering and construction contractor, primarily focused on infrastructure, industrial, and high-end commercial projects in the Middle East, Africa, and the United States.
