Weightlifter Fatma Elyan secures Egypt’s fourth medal at Paris 2024 Paralympics

Egyptian weightlifter Fatma Elyan earned the silver medal in the women’s 67kg weightlifting event at the 2024 Paralympic Games on Friday, marking Egypt's fourth medal at the event.

Elyan, 24 years old, succeeded with a lift of 130 kg on her first attempt, 134 kg on her second, and 139 kg on her third, setting a new Paralympic record.

Chinese lifter Yujiao Tan, the world record holder, lifted 140 kg to win gold and set a new Olympic record.

This silver medal adds to Egypt’s Paralympic history, now totaling 65 medals.

In addition to Elyan’s silver, Egypt’s medals include golds from Mohamed El-Miniawy in the 59 kg weightlifting category and Rehab Ahmed Radwan in the 55 kg category.

The Egyptian sitting volleyball team also won bronze by defeating Germany 3-2.

Egypt currently ranks 37th in the overall standings at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, held from 28 August to 8 September.

The Egyptian delegation features 54 athletes competing in 10 sports, including 25 wheelchair users, 7 athletes with visual impairments, and those with intellectual disabilities.
