Egypt jewellery, gemstones exports amount to $1.5 bln in 7 months: ECBM report

Egypt’s exports of jewellery and gemstones increased by 118 percent from January to July amounting to $1.526 billion, compared to $700 million in 2023, according to the Export Council for Building Materials, Refractory & Metallurgy Industries (ECBM) monthly report.

The United Arab Emirates ranked first in jewellery and gemstone exports, with a 287 percent increase to $909 million, up from $235 million in 2023, according to the report.

Switzerland came second, marking a 591 percent increase to $605 million, up from $88 million in 2023.

Jordan occupied third place with exports reaching $3 million, rising by 8022 percent from $0.041 million in 2023.

The fourth was Canada, marking a 99 percent decrease to $3 million, down from $372 million in 2023.

Turkey ranked fifth, recording $1.476 million, a 19157 percent surge, up from $0.008 million in 2023.

On another note, The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) announced in August the extension of the deadline for receiving gold jewellery export proceeds to 75 days from the shipping date, compared to seven or 30 working days before that.
