Earlier, Israel ordered the evacuation of all of northern Gaza, including the territory’s largest city, in the opening weeks of its war on Gaza.
Most residents heeded the orders and headed south, but up to 300,000 remained in the north, where Israel’s air and ground operations have caused widespread destruction.
The north has been surrounded by Israeli forces and largely isolated since October.
Meanwhile, Kamal Adwan Hospital and Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza said operations could stop within 48 hours due to shortages of fuel and medical resources amid ongoing Israeli siege and bombardment.
Director of the Indonesian Hospital Marwan Sultan said that the intensive care unit has reached its maximum capacity and is filled with critical cases, in addition to having 10 patients who depend on ventilators.
Kamal Adwan Hospital also warned of a major threat to the lives of many patients and injured people receiving treatment at the hospital.
Across Gaza, Israeli strikes killed at least six Palestinians on Monday.
Around 90 percent of Gaza’s population of 2.3 million people have been displaced in the 11-month-old war, often multiple times.
Hundreds of thousands of people are crammed into tent camps along the coast with few public services.
Second year without schooling
The ongoing Israeli war against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip has deprived more than 630,000 students of their right to education since 7 October 2023, WAFA news agency reported.
The war on Gaza left more than 25,000 children dead or wounded, including more than 10,000 school students, amidst the destruction of 90 percent of the 307 government school buildings.
The majority of schools run by UNRWA (about 200) in the Gaza Strip were turned into shelters for displaced people.
More than 70 percent of these schools were bombed, with some completely destroyed and others severely damaged.
According to UNRWA, four out of every five school buildings in Gaza were directly hit or damaged.
