No shooting incident occurred on Egyptian-Israeli border: Egyptian source

A high-level Egyptian source said on Tuesday that there was no shooting incident on the Egyptian border with Israeli as circulated by the Israeli media.

In remarks to Al-Qahera News, the source clarified that the alleged incident occurred in the Israeli Negev Desert and involved an exchange of fire between Israeli border guards and a group of smugglers.

The source stressed that no incidents or confrontations have taken place on the Egyptian side of the border. 

On Monday, Israeli media claimed that a shooting incident involving Israeli soldiers and drug smugglers occurred at the Egyptian-Israeli borders.

The Israeli army said its soldiers opened fire on a vehicle belonging to drug smugglers speeding towards them.

It added that an Israeli army officer was slightly injured.

The army added that a search operation is underway in the area following the incident.
