The Israeli attacks on civilians in Gaza are ongoing “in the absence of effective international action to end this humanitarian suffering,” a statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs read.
In a new massacre, Israel launched an airstrike on Al-Mawasi, a pre-designated humanitarian safe zone by the Israeli military in Khan Yunis, killing 40 residents and injuring 60 others, Gaza's civil defence agency reported earlier today.
Civil Defence Spokesman Mahmoud Basal noted that the camp residents had not been warned of the attack.
The strike caused extensive damage, destroying 20 to 40 tents and creating three deep craters.
The Egyptian foreign ministry noted that the situation in the Palestinian territory has severely undermined the credibility of humanitarian standards and values and constitutes a violation of fundamental principles of international humanitarian law and human rights.
Egypt also warned that the ongoing crimes and disregard for innocent lives pose a serious threat to regional and international peace and security.
Cairo also urged all international communities to avoid the policy of double standards and fulfil their humanitarian and moral obligations to halt this crisis instantly.
Furthermore, Egypt asserted that ending the suffering of the Palestinian people and restoring security and stability in the region requires more than a complete ceasefire in Gaza.
“A fair and lasting settlement of the conflict, based solely on the two-state solution, which involves the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital”, the statement asserted.
Egypt has repeatedly called on the international community and the European Union to apply significant pressure to secure an agreement to end the Israeli 11-month-long war in the Gaza Strip, which claimed the lives of over 40,000 Palestinians.
