MBRAGI, Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation sign AED220 mln support agreement
The Magdi Yacoub Global Heart Centre will allocate the funds towards the completion of a new complex in the 6th of October City, Egypt.
Spanning 35.67 feddans (approximately 37 acres), the complex will focus primarily on treating newborns with congenital heart defects, raising their chances of living healthy by 95 percent, according to the Emirati news agency WAM.
The new complex will feature an additional 300 beds and 36 outpatient clinics.
The complex will triple the current number of training graduates to 2,625 healthcare professionals by training 1,750 professionals annually, the news agency added.
The signing ceremony, held in Dubai, was attended by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, and Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of MBRGI.
This funding will assist in expanding and enhancing the foundation's capacity and efficiency, Sheikh Hamdan wrote on X.
This contribution, he added, raises the total support provided by MBRGI to approximately AED 320 million ($87.1 million).
“Led by Sir Magdi Yacoub, a globally renowned philanthropist and heart surgeon, the foundation’s new hospital project in Cairo will provide care to 130,000 patients each year,” he noted.
UAE's support aligns with Mohammed bin Rashid's humanitarian mission to spread hope and provide healing to people in need, said the crown prince of Dubai.
For his part, Professor Magdi Yacoub expressed his deep gratitude for MBRGI's support, commending the UAE leadership for their unwavering commitment to enhancing healthcare regionally and globally.
"This generous contribution will have a profound impact," he said during the ceremony as reported by WAM.
"The centre's expansion will offer renewed hope to heart patients, particularly children in need of life-saving treatment for congenital conditions. By increasing access to care, we can combat the global burden of heart disease and significantly reduce mortality rates," Yacoub added.
