In a statement on Wednesday evening, Hamas praised “the Egyptian and Qatari role and their efforts in the indirect negotiations to stop the aggression against our people.”

“The movement' emphasizes its continued positivity and flexibility in order to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and the withdrawal of the occupation army from the entire territory of the strip,” read the statement.

Hamas emphasized “its readiness to immediately implement the ceasefire agreement based on President Biden's announcement on 05/31/2024 and Security Council Resolution No. 2735 and what was previously agreed upon, especially the agreements of 7/2/2024, without setting any new demands, and its rejection of any new conditions on this agreement by any party.”

The statement added that Hamas “rejects any projects related to the post-cessation phase of aggression on Gaza, emphasizing that the management of the strip is an internal Palestinian affair that is agreed upon with an agreed-upon Palestinian vision.”

Since the beginning of Israel's military aggression on Gaza on 7 October, Egypt, Qatar, and the United States have been mediating talks between Hamas and Israel over details for a ceasefire and the exchange of captives and prisoners.

Several rounds of talks held in Doha and Cairo over the last several months failed to reach a ceasefire deal to end the war which has raged on for 11 months.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has hindered reaching a deal by making new demands whenever mediation efforts near completion and a ceasefire deal seems within reach.

Netanyahu has recently blocked mediation efforts by refusing to withdraw troops from the Philadelphi (Salaheddin) corridor under the false pretext that Hamas received "arms smuggled through tunnels from Sinai."

Netanyahu's wild claims were refuted and debunked by Egypt on multiple occasions.

On Monday, Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty told reporters: "These Israeli claims are intended to evade the conclusion of a deal that would ensure an immediate ceasefire in Gaza war."

Cairo has repeatedly called on the US and Western powers to pressure Israel to open all border crossings allow humanitarian aid to 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza and end its brutal war on the strip.
