Egypt extended on Thursday its deepest condolences and solidarity to Niger in the wake of the recent heavy rains and floods, which have led to hundreds of victims, numerous injuries, and substantial material losses.

In a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt also extended its heartfelt sympathy to the government, the people of Niger and the families of the victims.

Furthermore, Cairo conveyed hopes for the swift recovery of the injured and the quick locating of the missing persons, while reaffirming Egypt's support for Niger during this difficult time.

Since June, heavy rains in Niger have caused 273 deaths and affected more than 700,000 people, according to local authorities earlier this month.

The floods have devastated infrastructure, destroyed nearly 50,000 homes, and interrupted the education of over 39,000 children, as reported by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

The southern regions, where a large number of refugees have sought shelter, have been especially hard-hit by these disruptions.
