Egypt intelligence chief, foreign minister discuss regional developments with Eritrean President Afwerki in Asmara

Head of the General Intelligence Service Abbas Kamel and Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty delivered a message from President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to his Eritrean counterpart Isaias Afwerki in a meeting in Asmara on the latest political and security developments in the region and ways to bolster relations between the two countries.

According to a statement by the Egyptian foreign ministry, Kamel and Abdelatty listened to President Afwerki’s perspective on the latest developments in the Red Sea in light of the importance of creating favourable conditions to restore normal maritime navigation and international trade through the Bab Al-Mandeb Strait.

The meeting also discussed ways to enhance security and stability in the Horn of Africa in light of the challenges facing the region.

Both parties agreed on the need to intensify efforts and continue consultations to achieve stability and support national institutions in Sudan, and safeguard Somalia's unity and sovereignty over its entire territory, added the statement.
