The court heard the lawyer of the victim's family, who confirmed that the family refused to settle for the legal blood money, which amounts to EGP 1 million.

"If my father had returned to us unharmed, we would have accepted the settlement, but he came to us in four pieces," the victim's daughter said.

The court also listened to the defense team of the 26-year-old Ahmed Fatouh, who requested his release, arguing that there was no fear of him fleeing.

They also asked the court to visit the accident site, hear the forensic doctor who examined the victim's body, and question eyewitnesses and police officers about the incident. Additionally, they requested an expert on roads and bridges to verify whether a pedestrian bridge existed at the accident site.

According to the prosecution, the defendant, Ahmed Fatouh, a professional football player of Zamalek Sports Club, had run over the victim, policeman Sayed Ahmed, while the latter was crossing the road due to the defendant's speeding in August.

Investigations revealed that Fatouh was under the influence of drugs at the time.

According to the prosecutor’s report, the defendant, a Cairo resident, was found to have drugs for personal use on 8 August 2024.

He drove under the influence, which led to the death of the victim due to his negligence and reckless driving. He exceeded the legal speed limit, failed to adhere to road safety laws, and exposed others to danger.

The Public Prosecution referred Zamalek and Pharaohs' fullback Ahmed Fatouh to criminal court to stand trial on charges of manslaughter while driving under the influence.
