Shimy made his remarks following a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.

The Minister of Public Business Sector emphasized that El-Nasr is one of the important industrial entities and that the ministry is keen on developing and supporting companies with modern technology and keeping up with global developments in the automotive industry.

On 14 June 2022, Egypt launched the national strategy for developing the automotive industry to fulfil the local market's needs and boost exports to compete in the global automotive industry.

In 2021, Egypt signed a framework agreement with China's Dongfeng to produce electric cars.

El-Nasr was founded in 1960 as the first automotive production firm in the Middle East.

The company has previously specialized in assembling Italian Fiat cars. It also produced the famous "Shahin" budget car, a hybrid of the Turkish model of Fiat.
