The Egyptian Navy rescued 45 Egyptians after receiving a distress signal from a boat carrying irregular migrants located 96 nautical miles off Salloum in northwestern Egypt, according to a statement by the Egyptian Armed Forces Spokesperson Gharib Abdel-Hafez on Thursday.

The General Command of the Armed Forces directed naval forces to provide rescue and relief to a boat carrying irregular migrants after receiving a distress call, the military spokesperson explained.

The naval forces promptly deployed a naval unit from the 3 July naval base, equipped with necessary medical and logistical supplies, to conduct rescue and evacuation operations.

The naval forces handed all of the rescued to the relevant authorities to take necessary measures, added the statement.
