This was part of a ceremony held on Sunday in the presence of Walid Gamal El-Din, SCZONE chairman; Xu Qifeng, executive director of TEDA-Egypt Investment Company; Zhang Zongchao, CEO of Chemtics; and several SCZONE’s officials.

The project will be established on an area of 60 thousand square metres to produce more than 40,000 tons of calcium hypochlorite annually.

The factory will be implemented in two phases, as the first phase ends and enters production by May 2025.

Gamal El-Din noted that establishing a chemical plant adds to the success record of the SCZONE investment, adding that the partnership between the two countries encompassed more than 160 companies with a total investment of $2 billion.

This partnership also provided about 50,000 job opportunities, he said.

SCZONE chairman added that the recent promotional tour in China included signing contracts for six new projects with total investments exceeding $1.067 billion on a total area of 1.2 million square metres.

These projects will be established during FY2024/2025.

The contracts target deepening cooperation in the fields of energy production, glass manufacturing, bromine, chlor-alkali, and other fields that complement the Chemtics project and enhance the manufacture of fine chemical products.

In November 2023, the SCZONE and Chinese investors signed a $15.6 billion agreement for establishing 11 manufacturing and green hydrogen projects.

In July, the SCZONE and Chinese company Zhejiang Hengsheng initiated work on the $70 million textiles and clothing factory in West Qantara Industrial City in Ismailia.

Gamal El-Din pointed out that Egypt aims to make Chemtics Egypt Chemicals the largest base for producing calcium hypochlorite in Egypt and Africa.

He stated that these efforts align with Egypt’s strategy to localize several targeted industrial sectors.

Chemtics specializes in the production of chlorine-containing disinfectants and related fine chemicals.

It relies on technical support from the Nankai University of China and has production bases in China, including Dezhou, Binzhou, and Tai’an, and others outside China, with a total output exceeding 120,000 tons, making it the largest producer of calcium hypochlorite in the world.
