The move is part of Egypt's support for Somalia's efforts to "achieve security and stability, combat terrorism, and uphold its sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity," the statement noted.
The military support is part of the recently signed military cooperation protocol between Egypt and Somalia, according to the statement.
Cairo assists Somalia in building national capabilities to fulfil the aspirations of its people for security, stability, and development, highlighted the statement.
On 14 August, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud witnessed the signing of a military cooperation protocol between the two countries.
Meeting with Somalia and Eritrea
Meanwhile, Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty held a trilateral meeting with his counterparts of Somalia, Ahmed Moallem Faki, and Eritrea, Osman Saleh, on the sidelines of the high-level meeting of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 79) in New York.
The meeting showcased "strong coordination at the highest level and the political will of the three countries to achieve shared goals and interests, maintain regional stability, and uphold the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Somalia," according to another statement from the Egyptian foreign ministry on Monday.
In January, Somaliland agreed to lease 20 kilometres of its coast for 50 years to landlocked Ethiopia, which wants to set up a naval base and a commercial port in that area on the Red Sea, raising tensions in the Horn of Africa region.
Somaliland, which unilaterally declared independence from Somalia in 1991, has said Ethiopia in return will become the first country to recognize it formally, a step Addis Ababa has yet to confirm.
Somalia's president accused Ethiopia of refusing to recognize Somalia as a sovereign state, renewing his attacks on Addis Ababa's agreement with a breakaway Somali region.
Egypt has repeatedly stressed the necessity of full respect for Somalia's security, stability, and sovereignty over its lands, expressing its full rejection of any measures that would undermine the sovereignty of the Arab League (AL) member.
