New films across cinemas
 

Thursday 26 September brings several new films to movie theatres across Egypt:

- The Wild Robot: starring Pedro Pascal, Catherine O’Hara, and Lupita Nyong’o;
- Bagman: a horror film starring Sam Claflin, Steven Cree, and Antonia Thomas;
- Never Let Go: a horror film starring Halle Berry, Percy Daggs IV, and Anthony B. Jenkins.

 

 

Ali El-Haggar - music

El-Haggar has been one of the best-known singers in Egypt and the Arab world over the past four decades.

His songs carry lyrics drawn from the poetry of Salah Jahin, Abdel-Rahman El-Abnoudy, and Sayed Hegab, to music by the country's most renowned composers such as Baligh Hamdy, Sayed Mekkawy, and Omar Khairat, among others.

 

 

She Arts Festival
26-29 September
AUC Tahrir Campus, Cairo - Jesuit Cultural Centre, Alexandria

The 4th edition of She Arts Festival will showcase local and international female artists at the stages of Cairo and Alexandria.

This year, the festival will present numerous concerts, theatre plays, film screenings, workshops, and seminars. The performances feature musicians and bands like Marwa Nagy, Ritmo, Gold Mass, Yousra El-Gendy, and Faneka.

Alexandria Opera Ensemble for Music & Arab Singing - music

Damanhour Opera House

The Alexandria Opera Ensemble for Music and Arab Singing will perform Arabic pieces.

The evening will feature several singers including Howaida Salah, Ahmed Ragab, Yomna Hassan, and Amir Refai.

 

 

Tablet Elsitt - music
Thursday 26 September, 8pm
River Hall, El-Sawy Culturewheel, 26th of July Street, Zamalek, Cairo

The troupe consists of women percussionists.

Founded by folk music enthusiast Soha Mohamed in 2019, the group is bringing Egypt’s musical heritage back.

 

 

Fatma Said - music
Thursday 26 September, 8pm
Abdeen Palace, Cairo

Said, one of Egypt’s brightest stars in classical music, gained prominence for her extraordinary vocal qualities, topped with a unique ability to blend Western classical music with her Middle Eastern heritage.

Her debut album El-Nour brought her the Opus Klassik Award for Best Young Artist.

In 2023, she debuted at the Carnegie and performed at the Grand Egyptian Museum.

A few months later, she was offered the Rafik Hariri Award for Artistic Excellence in a special ceremony at the Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts, Washington DC.

This year, she received the European Culture Award, a recognition offered to individuals and institutions that significantly contribute to European culture across various fields. 

She will be accompanied by a grand orchestra conducted by Nader Abbassi in the upcoming concert.

Fouad & Mounib - music

The story of Fouad and Mounib goes back to 2015 when the two musicians met on Facebook and began sharing their music.

After a few months, the duo performed in their first concert at Alexandria’s Creativity Centre. 

Their popularity has increased, taking them to numerous renowned halls, including the Cairo Opera House and Bibliotheca Alexandrina’s Arts Centre, and tours in Morocco and Austria.

With time, the musicians started to pursue more ambitious endeavours, with Mounib creating arrangements for various ensembles and an orchestra.

 

 

Cairo Symphony Orchestra - music

Cairo Opera House, Main Hall, Zamalek, Cairo

The Cairo Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Ahmed El-Saedi, will perform Anton Bruckner’s works to celebrate the composer’s bicentenary, with A Cappella Choir.

Austrian composer Bruckner composed nine symphonies along with several masses and choral works.

The Cairo Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1959 by its first music director and conductor Franz Litschauer.

Over the past half-century, the orchestra has performed at numerous venues in Egypt and abroad, with many principal conductors and hundreds of world-renowned soloists. 

 

 

Baligh Hamdi Tribute - music

Cairo Opera House, Main Hall, Zamalek, Cairo

The National Ensemble for Arabic Music, conducted by Mostafa Helmy, will perform numerous compositions by renowned Egyptian composer Baligh Hamdi.

The evening will include Ayat Farouk, Iman Abdelghani, Ahmed Said, Mohamed Tarek, and Ashraf Walid.

 

 

Gugak & Arirang Performance
Closing ceremony of Korean Culture Week (K-Sound)
Saturday 28 September, 8:30pm
Cairo Opera House, Small Hall, Zamalek, Cairo

The Korean Culture Centre has created K-Sound Week to celebrate its 10th anniversary in Egypt.

K-Sound is a blend of traditional and contemporary Korean music. 

The evening will feature Gugak and Arirang performances: Arirang is a Korean folk, while Gugak describes traditional Korean music. 

The Arirang performance will be a part of the ceremony featuring performers Park Jai Hyung, Eom Ye Jin, and Noh Yoon Ji.

Gugak Academy will feature a performance where Egyptian students, guided by a specialist, showcase their skills in playing Gugak instruments.

Um Kalthum Tribute - music

Arabic Music Institute, 22 Ramsis Street, Downtown Cairo

In memory of renowned singer Um Kalthum, Abdel Halim Nowera Ensemble for Arab Music will perform her songs.

The Nowera ensemble was founded in 1967 by Maestro Abdel Halim Nowera to revive the authentic musical heritage, presenting various traditional vocal and musical forms.

The evening, conducted by maestro Salah Ghobashy, will feature solo singers Ghada Adam and Rehab Omar.
