Labib made her statement during the DevOps Days Cairo event held on Wednesday.
DevOps is a set of practices, tools, and a cultural philosophy that automates and integrates the processes between software development and IT teams.
It emphasizes team empowerment, cross-team communication and collaboration, and technology automation.
The DevOps movement began around 2007 when the software development and IT operations communities raised concerns about the traditional software development model.
The event was attended by Ahmed El-Zaher, CEO of ITIDA, Haitham Hamza, Acting Chairman of SECC, Motaz Al-Agamawi, Director, Partner & CTO at PwC ETIC, Mohamed Sami, Technology Global Director at _VOIS, and Ahmed Tolba, Partner Engineering Manager at Microsoft Egypt Development Centre.
Labib emphasized the importance of enhancing Egypt's software industry to boost digital exports.
She also asserted the importance of Egypt adopting advanced technologies and methodologies, including DevOps, to stay competitive in the swiftly evolving global digital environment.
Furthermore, Labib noted that the software industry is essential to transform to digitalization and is considered the driving force of the global economy in the digital era.
The global market of DevOps recorded $10.9 billion in 2023; it is anticipated to grow by 21 percent between 2024 and 2032 to reach approximately $63.4 billion by 2032, she added.
According to Labib, software is growing at a high and unprecedented rate, with the market size reaching $700 billion in 2024. She added that software is expected to record $2.2 trillion in 2024, achieving a growth rate of 11.8 percent between 2024 and 2034.
Labib explained that the growth was derived by depending on cloud computing, digital transformation solutions, and the expansion of AI technology uses.
In addition, she highlighted that improving local competitiveness through talent development, higher quality software products, and adopting global best practices will position Egypt as a significant player in digital exports, potentially becoming a hub for software development.
For his part, El-Zaher stated that DevOps drives innovation and can significantly enhance efficiency and security.
In adopting DevOps practices, Egyptian companies can enhance their agility in responding to disruptions, shorten time-to-market, and consistently deliver high-quality products and services, he added.
Hamza, in turn, noted that the conference is organized in more than 60 cities worldwide and that Cairo is the only capital hosting it in the Arab world.
Al-Agamawi, on the other hand, said AI didn't reduce job opportunities as was anticipated but created many jobs.
Tolba, for his part, stressed that every organization must involve all workers in any change, process not just the leadership.
ITIDA issues an international certificate
Hamza announced on Wednesday that ITIDA launched an international certificate in DevOps in September 2024.
He noted that delivering a global certificate about DevOps is a trend in software engineering and mindset companies must adopt to increase their productivity.
Hamza also indicated that over the past 6 editions of DevOps, more than 75 sessions have been held with over 1,400 individuals from different countries attending in various sectors, including ICT, health, and education.
He stressed, in conclusion, that ITIDA is committed to supporting Egyptian companies in their journey towards digital transformation and that the agency remains dedicated to assisting companies in adopting DevOps practices and developing the necessary skills within their workforce.
