Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan said the first meeting of the "International Coalition for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution" will be held in Riyadh and will address the ongoing war on Gaza, the territory’s ensuing humanitarian disaster, and the continued Israeli violations in the occupied West Bank, according to the official Saudi Press Agency.

Prince Farhan announced the initiative during a high-level ministerial meeting on the Palestinian issue, held on the sidelines the 79th UN General Assembly in New York.

Several Arab, Islamic, and European countries, along with the European Union, the Arab League, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), participated in the meeting.

"The right to self-defence cannot justify the killing of tens of thousands of civilians, systematic destruction, forced displacement, the use of starvation as a weapon of war, incitement, dehumanization, and the most egregious forms of torture, including sexual violence and other documented crimes according to UN reports," the Saudi FM said.

The top diplomat also underscored the risk of a regional escalation calling for an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon.

"We demand an immediate cessation of the ongoing war, all violations of international law, and accountability for those obstructing the peace process and threatening the security of the region and the world."

As of 21 June 2024, 149 out of 193 UN member states now formally recognize Palestinian statehood, making up more than two-thirds of the member states of the United Nations.

On 18 September, UN member states formally demanded in a non-binding resolution Wednesday an end to the 57-year-old Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories within 12 months and sanctions for non-compliance.
