The statement came a few hours after an Iranian missile attack on Israel and subsequent airspace closures by both Jordan and Iraq.
“Coordination is ongoing with neighbouring countries in response to the closure of airspace by both Jordan and Iraq,” the aviation ministry pointed out.
The ministry added that EgyptAir flight MS 701, en route from Cairo to Amman, has returned to Cairo Airport due to the closure of Jordanian airspace.
Public relations teams from both EgyptAir and Cairo Airport hosted the passengers, providing them with full support.
Additionally, Cairo International Airport has heightened its state of readiness in anticipation of potential landings of transit flights, considering the airspace closures in some neighbouring countries.
The ministry urged all passengers flying to Baghdad, Erbil, and Jordan to check their bookings while awaiting further updates.
On Tuesday evening, Iran launched a missile attack targeting Israel in retaliation for the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in late July in Tehran as well as Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut last week.
Nasrallah was killed alongside General Abbas Nilforoushan, a top commander of the Quds Force, the Guards' foreign operations arm.
Due to the Iranian missile attack, Jordan suspended flights at Queen Alia International Airport temporarily till the end of the attack.
Iraq also ordered the closure of its airspace for safety reasons after the Iranian attack, the official Iraqi news agency said.
