According to the public broadcaster Kan, the incident occurred late Tuesday when two gunmen disembarked from the city’s light rail on Jerusalem Boulevard, a busy main street. The attackers opened fire on passengers and bystanders near the light rail station, killing seven people and injuring nine others, including four in critical condition.
In a statement, the Al-Qassam Brigades identified the assailants as Muhammad Rashid Misk and Ahmed Abdul Fattah Al-Haimouni from Hebron.
The group stated that the two men infiltrated "occupied territories," stabbed an Israeli soldier, seized his weapon, and then launched the shooting attack.
Israeli police confirmed that both gunmen were killed at the scene.
