In a phone call, both top diplomats reaffirmed that Israeli attacks on Gaza and Lebanon, coupled with illegal escalation measures in the West Bank, are pushing the region toward a full-scale regional conflict.
The foreign ministers reiterated the necessity of an immediate cessation of hostilities in Gaza and Lebanon and de-escalations in the West Bank.
They affirmed the unwavering support of Egypt and Jordan for Lebanon’s security, sovereignty, and the protection of its citizens, condemning Israel’s attacks on it, including the bombing of Beirut and the killing of civilians.
Both FMs underscored the importance of supporting Lebanon’s efforts to fully implement the UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and redeploy the Lebanese Army in the southern regions.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to backing Lebanon’s endeavours to elect a new president, strengthen state institutions, and ensure their protection and empowerment.
Abdelatty and Safadi also highlighted the urgent need to deliver humanitarian aid to Lebanon, especially after the internal displacement of over a million Lebanese due to Israeli aggression.
They called on the UN Security Council to uphold its responsibility for maintaining peace and security, pressing Israel to comply with international law and international humanitarian law by ceasing its aggression on Gaza and Lebanon.
