In an official statement, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the support expressed by the UN Security Council members to Guterres on Thursday.
Cairo highlighted Guterres' steadfast commitment throughout his career to the UN Charter and its core principles, which advocate for respecting international law, international humanitarian law, justice, and the right to self-determination.
Egypt also commended the UN chief for his significant contributions to promoting the UN values, supporting global peace and security, and his deeply principled stances, which he upholds with sincerity and conviction, marking his legacy in history.
On Wednesday, Israel’s Foreign Minister Israel Katz said that he was barring Guterres from entering Israel, accusing him of being biased against the country, deepening an already wide rift between Israel and the UN since the outbreak of the Israeli war on Gaza in October 2023.
