"Following the sirens that sounded at 06:31 in several communities near the Gaza Strip, four projectiles were identified crossing from the southern Gaza Strip. Three of the projectiles were intercepted by the IAF (air force) and a fallen projectile was identified in an open area," the Israeli military said in a statement.

The armed wing of Hamas said it had fired rockets into southern Israel at enemy gatherings at Rafah crossing, Karm Abu Salem crossing, and kibbutz Holit near the border with Gaza.

Israel's military said it launched a wave of artillery and airstrikes overnight and into Monday to thwart what it said was an imminent attack.

It claimed it targeted Hamas launch posts and underground infrastructure.

The fighting on the anniversary underscored Hamas fighters’ resilience in the face of a devastating Israeli offensive that has killed around 42,000 Palestinians.

It has also destroyed large areas of Gaza and displaced around 90 percent of its population.

The Israeli military confirmed early Monday it had carried out strikes on Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir Al-Balah in central Gaza, claiming it had become the base for a Hamas “command and control complex,” without providing any evidence.

Eleven civilians were injured on Sunday evening in Israeli attacks that targeted displaced people in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza and north Gaza’s Jabalia camp, Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

Israeli warplanes reportedly bombed a tent sheltering internally displaced people west of the Nuseirat camp, injuring seven civilians.

Four civilians in a centre in the Jabalia camp were injured by Israeli attacks, according to the WAFA report.

On Sunday, the Israeli army said its forces had surrounded the Jabalia area of northern Gaza because of what it claimed was the presence of  Hamas fighters and their infrastructure.

Lebanon

A new round of airstrikes hit Beirut suburbs late Sunday as Israel intensified its bombardment on southern Lebanon.

Lebanese group Hezbollah rockets hit Israel's third-largest city of Haifa, Israeli police said early on Monday.

Hezbollah said it targeted a military base south of Haifa with a salvo of "Fadi 1" missiles.

Israeli media reported 10 injured in the country's north on the first anniversary of the Gaza war.

Two rockets hit Haifa on Israel's Mediterranean coast and five hit Tiberias, 65 km (40 miles) away, Israeli news media said.

Police said some buildings and properties were damaged, and there were reports of minor injuries.

The military said sirens also sounded in the Upper Galilee area of northern Israel, with no let-up in the daily rocket fire from Lebanon.

Earlier Monday, the military said it had also intercepted two "suspicious aerial targets" launched from the east.

An Israeli soldier was killed along the country's northern border with Lebanon, the latest casualty since the military launched ground operations on Leabanon last week, the military announced on Monday.
