Zamalek midfielder Nabil "Dunga" Emad has been ruled out of Egypt’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Mauritania due to a hamstring injury.

"After experiencing pain in his hamstring, the player underwent medical tests. Scans confirmed that he is still suffering from a hamstring strain. As a result, the technical staff, in coordination with the medical team, decided to rest him. He left the training camp following today’s session," the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) said in a statement on its official X account.

Emad, 28, was recalled to the Pharaohs squad by head coach Hossam Hassan for the first time since March 2022. He was an unused substitute in Friday’s 2-0 win against Mauritania, and his wait for an international appearance will now continue.

Emad is the second player to be ruled out of the game in Nouakchott, with captain Mohamed Salah also rested for the trip.

Egypt lead Group C with a perfect nine points and need just a draw on Tuesday in the fourth round of the AFCON qualifiers to secure their spot at Morocco 2025.
