The Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated Saturday that Nihon Hidankyo’s Nobel Peace Prize win is an important reminder of the necessity of ridding the world of these abhorrent weapons, which pose the gravest danger to mankind.
“Egypt will continue to pursue its initiative to establish a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East and apply IAEA safeguards as to all nuclear facilities in the Middle East,” the foreign ministry added.
The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded Friday to the anti-nuclear Japanese group Nihon Hidankyo, a grassroots movement founded in 1956 by atomic bomb survivors from Hiroshima and Nagasaki, also known as Hibakusha.
