Egypt's national team coach Hossam Hassan has decided to rest striker Mostafa Mohamed for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Mauritania in Nouakchott on Tuesday.

The decision follows Egypt's 2-0 victory over Mauritania in Cairo on Friday, which left the Pharaohs just one point away from qualifying for the 2025 AFCON tournament in Morocco.

A medical examination revealed that Mostafa Mohamed suffers from a hamstring strain, prompting Hassan to prioritize the player’s recovery and prevent the injury from worsening.

As a result, Mohamed will not travel with the team to Mauritania, with the striker set to continue his treatment and rest.

Egypt currently leads Group C with nine points after winning all three qualifying matches. A draw in Tuesday’s match would be enough for Egypt to secure their spot in the 2025 AFCON finals.
