According to the ministry, the visas will now be available upon arrival at Egyptian borders starting 1 December 2024 for all Canadians arriving in Egypt from that date onwards.
Additionally, the option to apply for an electronic visa (E-VISA) will be reactivated.
This decision follows the recent agreement reached during a meeting between Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty and his Canadian counterpart Mélanie Joly on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
In the context of this year’s celebration of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Egypt and Canada, both sides stressed the importance of facilitating mutual trade, boosting tourism, and working towards easing travel and visa procedures for citizens of both nations.
This decision reflects a shared commitment to fostering all aspects of cooperation and simplifying access for the citizens of both countries, the Egyptian foreign ministry announced.
Since October 2023, Canadian passport holders, who do not hail from Egyptian origin, have not been able to obtain a visa upon arrival in Egypt. Instead, they had to secure a visa from any Egyptian embassy or consulate abroad in advance.
