The animated film tells the story of a young Nubian girl who embarks on a journey through time to reconnect with her submerged homeland.

Joined by a Nile egret, she explores the underwater world of the lake formed by Egypt's Aswan High Dam, visiting Nubia's mountains and palm trees, water wheels, and homes and meeting its men and women.

She bids farewell to her community as they board boats destined for their resettlement villages. Upon returning to her own time, she carries the enduring strength of knowing that Nubia will always reside within her.

The eight-minute film is directed by Egyptian filmmaker Yasmin Moll.

The competition segments of the festival include feature films, documentary films, and short films.

This year, the festival showcases more than 70 films across all sections.

The Portland Film Festival, founded by Joshua Leake, began in 2013 in Portland, Oregon, USA.

The four-day festival’s programming includes films, workshops, and educational panels that focus on people, ideas, technology, skills, and the artistry behind filmmaking.
