MENA , Wednesday 23 Oct 2024

Olfat Ghorab, board chairman of the Arab Company for Drug Industries & Medical Appliances (ACDIMA), said the first factory for making biopharmaceuticals in the Middle East will start operation in Egypt in the first quarter of 2025, with investments amounting to EGP 5 billion.

This came in statements published by MENA on the sidelines of the second Global Congress on Population, Health, and Development (PHDC 2024).

Ghorab said that the factory, which is a 100 percent local investment, will provide all kinds of biopharmaceuticals.

She noted that the factory will manufacture cutting-edge biopharmaceutical products, including monoclonal antibody drugs that target the body's germ-fighting immune system against diseases, such as cancer.

Since these expensive medicines will be produced locally, they will be available in the domestic market at half the price of imported ones, according to Ghorab.

The project's main aim is to meet the local market needs and open the way for exporting to over 80 countries, she added.
