The trio were arrested on Sunday following a confrontation with a stadium organizer after Zamalek's Egyptian Super Cup semi-final match against Pyramids FC at Al Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Zamalek’s Board of Directors, led by Hussein Labeeb, expressed their deep respect and appreciation for the United Arab Emirates, its leadership, and its institutions. The club emphasized their full respect for the UAE judiciary and expressed confidence in its decisions and rulings.
The board also conveyed regret for any unintentional mistakes made by members of the team’s delegation and extended an apology for the incident. They highlighted the respectful and fair treatment the delegation has received from all UAE institutions since their arrival and praised the hospitality shown to them during their stay.
Additionally, Zamalek reaffirmed their commitment to participating in the Super Cup final in Abu Dhabi, out of respect for the UAE’s efforts in hosting the event. The club also denied any statements attributed to its members by the media, clarifying that such claims do not represent the club’s official position.
"We respect the law and the police. The incident was simply an emotional reaction during the match," said Hossam El-Mandouh, Zamalek's treasurer and head of the club’s delegation in the UAE, during a TV interview on Wednesday.
"We hope for some understanding, as the detained are football players and part of the Egyptian national team," El-Mandouh added.
He also noted that the team was treated well in Abu Dhabi.
Zamalek won the game 5-4 on penalties and will face Ahly in the Super Cup final on Thursday.
