This milestone comes 268 days after reaching 106 million on 8 February, marking an increase of one million people in less than nine months.
This rate of increase has slowed, taking longer than previous million-population milestones, compared to 250 days previously and 245 days before that.
The slowdown is linked to a decline in daily birth rates, with an average of 5,385 births per day, compared to 5,599 daily births when Egypt reached 106 million and 5,683 births per day for 105 million.
According to CAPMAS, Egypt has recorded 1.443 million births between February and November 2024.
However, birth rates have declined, from 21.1 per 1,000 people in 2022 to 19.4 per 1,000 in 2023.
The downward trend reflects the state's efforts to manage population growth, with the fertility rate declining from 3.5 children per woman in 2014 to 2.54 children in 2023.
Despite this, annual births exceeding two million pose significant challenges, straining Egypt’s resources and impacting economic, social, and environmental efforts.
