He highlighted the razor-thin margins between the candidates in key swing states, which make the outcome highly unpredictable, adding, “This election may be an unprecedented test for American democracy.”
Zogby emphasized that voter turnout will be a decisive factor in determining the winner, but polling data suggests a decline in voter enthusiasm compared to previous elections.
This is a worrisome indicator that could dampen voter engagement and impact the final results, he noted.
He also expressed fears regarding the possible rejection of the election results, referring to it as an “Armageddon election,” where voters on both sides perceive a victory by the other as an existential threat.
Zogby noted that while Democrats may be more flexible in accepting a loss, Trump supporters could resist an unfavourable outcome.
“Republicans are preparing to challenge the results at multiple levels, from local to national, stoking doubts about election integrity by perpetuating the notion that the 2020 election was stolen and warning that it could happen again,” he said.
“At this moment, I have no absolute confidence in the stability of this election. I am deeply concerned about what may come and believe the future of democracy in America could be at stake,” Zogby concluded.
