Part of Deterrence 2024 training exercise conducted in the Mediterranean.
The exercise involved participation from all main branches and specialised departments of the Armed Forces, with the presence of Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces LT General Ahmed Khalifa, branch leaders, and senior military commanders.
Aboard the helicopter carrier Gamal Abdel Nasser, the activities began with a summary of the strategic and tactical plan and activities executed in the exercise, the statement pointed out.
In the first stage, all forms of defence to protect the joint naval units against potential threats were organized in coordination with the air and air defence forces.
During this stage, air protection aircraft intercepted and engaged hostile aircraft, the statement added.
Chemical warfare units also conducted decontamination operations on naval units, removing the effects resulting from the enemy's use of chemical weapons to enable them to complete the assigned tasks.
Air defence forces repelled an enemy airstrike, protecting the helicopter carrier Gamal Abdel Nasser and its accompanying vessels by launching Avenger missiles to counter the aerial assault.
Suleiman Ezzat class missile boat joined the air defence formation to repel the air attack.
Naval special forces have also inspected a suspected, non-compliant commercial vessel, showcasing professional combat techniques to secure the vessel swiftly and precisely under aerial coverage from a Kamov attack helicopter.
A group of air forces personnel, in collaboration with naval units, performed search and rescue operations at sea, evacuating a wounded individual.
They transported the wounded via a medically-equipped Augusta helicopter to a field hospital with advanced operating rooms on the Mistral-class helicopter carrier Gamal Abdel Nasser.
Electronic warfare units dealt with small-sized unmanned aerial vehicles that represented hostile targets, the statement added.
They carried out electronic security operations using seaborne and airborne units to secure the combat operations of naval units.
In the second stage, a high-value hostile target was destroyed with Harpoon surface-to-surface missiles launched from a missile boat, supported by aerial strikes from air force fighters that completed the target's destruction.
Naval units carried out focused strikes with live artillery of various calibres on surface targets, while a submarine conducted reconnaissance to detect hostile units. Apache helicopters executed airstrikes against targets identified by submarines.
In the third stage, air defence systems positioned on the coast targeted a vital objective, successfully engaging and destroying all detected hostile aerial targets at various distances.
The third phase also included implementing missile coverage on a vital target using the combat capabilities of modern air defence systems stationed on the coast. These defence systems successfully engaged and destroyed all detected hostile aerial targets at various distances.
Amphibious vehicles aboard the Gamal Abdel Nasser carrier deployed commando units to raid a coastal target. The commandos, in collaboration with Northern Military Region forces, successfully cleared and secured the coast.
After the exercise, Minister Abdel-Meguid Saqr conveyed the greetings and appreciation of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to the exercise participants.
He commended their outstanding performance and high combat readiness, which demonstrated the capability and preparedness of the Armed Forces to protect Egypt's interests and resources across all strategic directions of the state.
