The joint letter, directed to the UN secretary-general, the Security Council president, and the General Assembly president, was submitted on 1 November.

The initiative, supported by the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, is part of broader international efforts to pressure Israel to end its ongoing violations of international humanitarian law and human rights law.

It urges the international community to take responsibility for stopping these violations against Palestinians, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Tuesday.

“Egypt was keen to be part of the nucleus group that had been working during the past period to mobilize countries to sign the letter,” read the statement.

The letter, which Turkey submitted to the UN, was also signed by Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Algeria, China, Iran, and Russia. The two organizations involved were the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

It highlights Israel’s serious violations of international law in the occupied territories and calls for immediate actions to halt arms exports to it, in line with relevant UN resolutions.

The statement pointed out that the letter also urges the UN Security Council to fulfil its role in achieving international peace and security by taking concrete actions to protect civilians and ensure accountability.

Israel’s yearlong war on Gaza has killed over 43,391 Palestinians and injured approximately 102,347 others, mostly women and children, destroying most of the strip’s infrastructure and displacing its population.
