Republican presidential nominee former President Donald Trump arrives at an election night watch party at the Palm Beach Convention Center, Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2024, in West Palm Beach, Fla. AP
Republican Donald Trump won Pennsylvania, Georgia, and North Carolina, capturing three of the seven heavily contested battlegrounds and coming within a few electoral votes of winning the presidency.
Fox News has declared Trump the winner of Tuesday's US presidential election. No other network has yet followed suit.
"We've made history for a reason tonight, and the reason is going to be just that we overcame obstacles that nobody thought possible," Trump told cheering supporters at a convention centre in West Palm Beach, Florida.
“I want to thank the American people for the extraordinary honor of being elected your 47th president, and your 45th president,” Trump said.
He added that this moment will “help this country heal.”
Trump promised to “not rest until we have delivered the strong, safe, and prosperous America.”
"This will truly be the golden age of America," he added.
“Every single day, I will be fighting for you with every breath in my body,” Trump said.
“God spared my life for a reason, and that reason was to save our country and restore America to greatness. And now we’re going to fulfill that mission together,” he stated.
Trump was joined on stage by some of his family members, including his wife Melania Trump, his running mate JD Vance, and House Speaker Mike Johnson.
He also recognised Rebablicans' wins in down-ballot races in his speech.
“The number of victories in the Senate was absolutely incredible,” Trump said.
Republicans have so far won 51 seats, giving them a majority. But Montana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Nevada have not been called, and Republicans could pick up more seats.
Trump also said he expected Republicans to hold the house and complimented House Speaker Mike Johnson. However, the house is still up for grabs.
Over 70 house races across the country have yet to be called, and neither party has a convincing edge in the tally of house races.
