According to the Egyptian army, the El-Masry played a crucial role in the 1973 War, crossing the Suez Canal among the first waves and famously contributing to the destruction of 27 Israeli tanks, including that of Colonel Asaf Yaguri, the commander of Israel’s 190th Armored Brigade.

In recognition of his valor, he was awarded in 1974 the Sinai Star, Egypt's highest military decoration, for acts of extraordinary bravery and heroism during the October 1973 war.

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has recently honoured El-Masry during the 51st anniversary event of the October War, which was organized by the Armed Forces’ Morale Affairs Department under the theme "October 1973 Victory: A People’s Story."

The Egyptian Armed Forces extended their deepest condolences to his family, praying for God’s mercy on his soul and strength for his loved ones in this time of loss.
