The former Arab Contractors winger had previously found the net in Ahly's 5-2 triumph over Ceramica Cleopatra in the league opener, bringing his goal tally to five goals in eight games.

Despite taking an early lead, the defending champions did not display the same form as in their last two matches, where they defeated UAE side Al-Ain 3-0 in the Intercontinental Cup before routing Ceramica Cleopatra 5-2 in the league opener.

The only real threat came in the 37th minute when Moroccan fullback Yahya Atialah's free kick struck the crossbar.

The second half was uneventful, with Ahly content with their lead and effectively thwarting ZED FC's attempts to equalize.

During the second half, defender Rami Rabia, midfielder Emam Ashour, and winger Hussein El-Shahat all suffered injuries and were unable to complete the game.

Forward Mahmoud 'Kahraba' Abdel-Moneam, who had been out of favor, made a 18-minute appearance, his first after missing five games, but failed to make a significant impact.
