The issue gained traction in recent weeks after several well-known actors revealed they suffered severe health problems after using weight loss injections.
This raised awareness among the public on the dangers of using unregulated weight loss injections without proper medical oversight.
The Egyptian health ministry's spokesperson Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar stressed that the public should only use approved weight loss injections under medical supervision.
He cautioned diabetes patients against using these injections and warned of the several health problems they may cause to many people.
"They might cause total paralysis of the digestive system, constipation, vomiting, gastric dryness, fatigue, and an increased heart rate," Abdel-Ghaffar said.
For his part, EDA's spokesperson Yasin Ragaey underscored the authority’s efforts in conducting extensive inspection campaigns in pharmacies, healthcare units, and other facilities to verify the safety of weight loss products in the market.
He advised the public to avoid using any weight loss injections unless they are approved by the EDA and used under the guidance of a physician.
Potential users should learn how to use these injections safely and effectively and understand the process of determining correct doses, Ragaey noted.
