Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has hailed Mohamed Salah as a “special” player after becoming the first player in Europe this season to reach double figures in both goals and assists.

SALAH

Salah played a pivotal role in Liverpool's 2-0 win over Aston Villa, assisting Darwin Nunez’s opener before securing the victory with a goal of his own.

“Special player, not only this year but for so many years now,” Van Dijk told the Daily Mail. “You see the hard work he puts in and how consistent he is, especially with his numbers and performances. He's a pleasure to play with.”

Salah’s consistency has been remarkable, recording 10+ goals and 10+ assists in seven of his eight seasons at Liverpool. From his sensational 2017/18 season with 44 goals and 15 assists to his current tally of 10 goals and 10 assists, Salah has repeatedly delivered, missing the mark only once in 2020/21 with 31 goals and 6 assists.

With these impressive stats, the Egyptian star continues to prove his impact and reliability for Liverpool. Van Dijk emphasized Salah’s endurance and mental toughness as factors that set him apart.

“Physically, definitely [he can stay at this level for longer]. Mentally, that’s in his hands,” Van Dijk noted, underscoring Salah’s ability to sustain his high-level performance season after  season.

The Pharaohs captain is in the final year of his contract and has not reached an agreement with the Reds, yet, to extend his stay.
