The Egyptian-Saudi co-produced film The Tale of Daye’s Family (Dayy) by Egyptian director Karim El-Shenawi will open the fourth edition of the Red Sea International Film Festival (Red Sea IFF), scheduled to take place between 5 and 14 December.

 Dayy

Dayy, Written by Haitham Dabbour, follows the story of an 11-year-old albino Nubian boy who dreams of going on a magical journey from south to north Egypt to pursue his dream of becoming a singer.

The film stars Saudi actress Aseel Omran, who is marking her debut in Egyptian cinema, Sudanese actress Islam Mubarak, and Egyptian actors Haneen Said and Badr Mohamed.

El-Shenawi and Dabbour worked together in 2013 on the short film Odd, starring Khaled El-Nabawi.

El-Shenawi directed several films, including Nawwara (2015) and Gunshot (2018), as well as TV series such as Qabeel (2019), Take Care of Zizi (2021), and Seventh Year Itch (2023).

Dayy is one of the several Egyptian films that will be screened in this edition.

The Red Sea IFF has selected Egyptian director Khaled Mansour’s film Seeking Haven for Mr. Rambo for the Feature Film Competition, which had its world premiere earlier this year at the 81st Venice International Film Festival.

Egypt's presence in the Festival Favourites special section is marked by the films East of Noon (Sharq 12) and The Inevitable Journey to Find a Wedding Dress.

The Egyptian art film Abdo and Saneya will also be screened in the Arab Spectacular segment.

The fourth edition of the Red Sea IFF will be held at the festival's new headquarters in Jeddah's vibrant Al-Balad district, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
