Mubarak pointed out that this site is an important religious and historical symbol and a holy place where holy scriptures were revealed.

It belongs to the entire world, stressed the governor.

He highlighted the governmet's ongoing cooperation with St. Catherine’s Monastery and its efforts to protect its religious and cultural heritage.

The governor said he met with the monastery's Archbishop Metropolitan Dmitri Samatzis Demanios at his residence in Athens as part of the fruitful historical ties between South Sinai Governorate and the Archaeological Bishopric of St. Catherine’s Monastery.

Egypt Ambassdor to Greece Omar Amer Youssef attended the meeting.

The Great Transfiguration project

Mubarak stated that the archbishop is participating in the efforts made to develop the city of Saint Catherine through the Great Transfiguration project, one of the largest tourism and cultural projects in the region.

He emphasized that Egypt is fully committed to protecting this global heritage site, noting that development is being carried out with the support of international partners, including the Greek community.

Mubarak explained that this comes as part of Egypt's efforts to develop and highlight the entire Saint Catherine area in appreciation of its spiritual value as the land of “Great Transfiguration,” transforming it into a global tourist destination.

He noted that this huge project, which is costing over EGP 15-16 billion, aims to fully develop the city and prepare it to receive visitors from all over the world.
