PM Madbouly attends COP29 in Azerbaijan

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly attended Tuesday the opening of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) held in the Azerbaijani capital of Baku from 11 to 22 November.

PM Madbouly is attending the COP29 on behalf of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi.

According to the Egyptian cabinet, UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev welcomed Madbouly upon his arrival at the summit venue. They expressed appreciation for Egypt's participation in this significant event.

During his participation, Madbouly met with several state heads, including UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The Egyptian PM also met with his Azeri counterpart Ali Asadov, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council Chairman Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, and Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva.

During the meetings, Madbouly discussed ways to enhance cooperation on various issues, including combating climate change and achieving green transition. He highlighted the deep political and economic relations between Egypt and their respective countries.

He also stressed the importance of the UN climate summit, which provides a vital opportunity to strengthen cooperation mechanisms between nations, achieve sustainability, and define commitments regarding climate change actions.

COP29, held under the theme "In Solidarity for a Green World," convenes leaders and heads of governments from 200 countries to discuss ways to mitigate global warming and its devastating consequences.

In 2022, Egypt hosted COP27 in the Red Sea city of Sharm El-Sheikh.
