Yemen's Houthi rebels claimed responsibility Tuesday for two separate attacks targeting US naval forces, including the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and two destroyers operating in the Red Sea and Arabian Sea, Al-Qahera News reported.

The first operation reportedly targeted the USS Abraham Lincoln in the Arabian Sea, utilizing cruise missiles and drones.

The second strike focused on two US destroyers in the Red Sea, also employing a combination of missiles and drones, according to the report.

The Pentagon has confirmed that Houthi forces launched multiple attacks on two US destroyers as they crossed the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait.

According to a Pentagon statement, the Houthis targeted the American vessels with at least eight drones, five ballistic missiles, and three cruise missiles.

Earlier Tuesday, multiple explosions were reported near a commercial vessel transiting the Red Sea, though no damage was confirmed, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) centre stated.

The incident occurred approximately 130 kilometres southwest of Hodeida, a port city under Houthi control. No injuries were reported, and the ship resumed its course.

Since the eruption of the Gaza war in October 2023, Houthi forces have targeted over 90 commercial vessels with drones and missiles, the UKMTO said.

These attacks have resulted in two vessels being sunk and one seized, claiming the lives of four sailors and significantly impacting commercial traffic through the region.

A recent UN report alleges that the Houthis may be shaking down some shippers for safe passage, demanding up to $180 million monthly in the Red Sea—one of the world's most vital waterways, with goods valued at $1 trillion passing through annually.

The Houthis have placed responsibility on the US-UK coalition for escalating tensions in the region and disrupting global shipping, vowing that attacks will persist as long as the Israeli wars in Gaza and Lebanon continue.

Since 7 October 2023, the Israeli brutal military aggression on the Gaza Strip has killed at least 43,665 people, most of them women and children, with more than 103,076 others injured, according to the Palestinian health ministry's latest figures.

The Lebanese health ministry announced on Tuesday that the death toll from Israeli military operations has risen to 3,287, with 14,222 injured since the beginning of the conflict.
