A Giza Misdemeanor Appeals Court accepted the Public Prosecution’s appeal against the acquittal of Ahly midfielder Emam Ashour in the case of assaulting a security guard at a well-known mall in Sheikh Zayed, sentencing him to six months in prison.

Previously, the Misdemeanor Court had acquitted in October Ashour of the charges of assaulting the security guard at the mall during the summer.

Following the acquittal, the Public Prosecution submitted an appeal, arguing that the evidence was conclusive and corroborated by witness testimonies, surveillance footage, and investigative reports.

The prosecution emphasized that the investigation was thorough and found no exculpatory evidence for the defendant, despite claims of his wife being harassed.

The prosecution detailed the incident, stating that the victim, Abdullah Mostafa, a security supervisor at the main gate of Arkan Mall, testified that Imam Ashour and others verbally and physically assaulted him, causing injuries.

Mostafa, who supervises three security personnel, recounted that on the morning of Thursday, 20 June 2024, he saw Ashour and a group of 10 to 15 people entering the mall.

When he tried to stop them for not following administrative instructions, Ashour insulted, pushed, and knocked him to the ground.

Mostafa lost consciousness after being repeatedly struck by Ashour and his companions.

A medical examination at Sheikh Zayed Central Hospital confirmed that Mostafa sustained a bruise on his right leg.

Today’s verdict is not final and can be appealed.
