Jean-Pierre added that what is seen in Gaza is horrific, but the US administration continued discussions with the Israelis to improve the humanitarian situation.
The White House press secretary's statements come shortly after Israeli President Isaac Herzog's visit to the White House on Tuesday.
Egypt, along with the US and Qatar, has been mediating indirect talks between Israel and Hamas to reach a ceasefire in the yearlong Israeli war on Gaza, which has killed and injured around 150,000 Palestinians, mostly children and women, damaged most of the infrastructure, and displaced majority of the population.
However, the Israeli government, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has refused on multiple occasions to sign on to various ceasefire proposals compiled by the mediators, opting to forge ahead with its 13-month-old genocidal campaign in the strip.
