Several Asian-Pacific and African countries participated in this competition.
According to the National Cyber Security Centre, cybersecurity refers to how individuals and organizations reduce cyberattacks.
The Arab Regional Cyber Security Centre (ITU-ARCC) in Muscat, Oman, organized the competition under the theme "The Impact of Cyber Threats on the Digital Economy."
This event involved over 600 participants from incident response teams and national cybersecurity centres across Arab and Islamic countries.
The competition's activities and scenarios aimed at strengthening the skills of response teams and improving communication between them to ensure a swift and effective response to growing cyber threats.
The event also focused on information security centres in vital sectors to safeguard data and digital services against online attacks.
During the competition, complex cyberattack simulations were conducted, testing the participants' ability to respond to attacks and use professional methods to mitigate their effects.
The CBE team achieved the highest rankings in several specialized drills, including Threat Hunting, Ransomware Attack Defence, and SOC Analyst Challenge: Advanced Memory and Malware CTF.
“The Egyptian teams’ remarkable achievements in the competition highlight Egypt’s prospered trajectory towards strengthening its leading role in the field of cybersecurity, which bolsters the confidence in the country's digital economy and empowers the attraction of foreign investments,” Sherif Hazem, CBE’s sub-governor for cybersecurity, stated.
In related news, global cybersecurity investments are projected to reach approximately $538 billion by 2030, according to the data platform Statista.
Egypt’s Vision 2030 asserts the need to integrate modern technologies into the banking and other economic sectors while fortifying cybersecurity systems.
The Egyptian Computer Emergency Readiness Team (EG-CERT), founded in 2009 as a part of the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA), plays a key role in responding to and analyzing cybersecurity incidents.
It collaborates with government agencies, financial institutions, and other critical sectors of national infrastructure, while also providing early warnings about malware outbreaks and large-scale cyberattacks targeting Egypt's telecom infrastructure.
In parallel, the launch of EG-FinCIRT represents a key development in the CBE’s strategy to safeguard the financial sector against cyber risks.
The mission of EG-FinCIRT is to strengthen the financial sector's cybersecurity framework, facilitate global collaboration for cyber information sharing, and take proactive steps to reduce cyber risks, all while safeguarding the constitutional rights of stakeholders.
