According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Abdelatty discussed with Mikati Egypt's efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon and Gaza, considering it key to regional de-escalation affirming Egypt's support for Lebanon and its strong condemnation of the Israeli attacks on the country.
He also highlighted to PM Mikati Egypt's ongoing communications with regional and international stakeholders to halt Israeli violations of Lebanese sovereignty and push for the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which includes enabling the Lebanese army to return to the south.
Egypt’s top diplomat arrived in Beirut earlier on Wednesday where he held a set of meetings with Lebanese officials above the speaker of the Lebanese parliament Nabih Berry and Druze leader Walid Jumblatt.
Abdelatty reiterated to PM Mikati Egypt's full support for Lebanon's state institutions, especially the Lebanese army, as the main entity capable of ensuring Lebanon's security and stability.
Minister Abdelatty indicated that Egypt is following with concern the escalating internal displacement crisis in Lebanon and its consequences.
He also reaffirmed Egypt's support for Lebanese institutions and emphasized the importance of resolving the presidential vacancy issue through national consensus and Lebanese ownership, without external interference.
He noted that Egypt is in contact with various regional and international actors to intensify humanitarian aid to Lebanon, emphasizing Egypt's continued commitment to providing all forms of support to Lebanon and its people during these critical times, as well as addressing the humanitarian impacts.
He cited the latest shipment of Egyptian humanitarian aid sent on Wednesday, including medical, shelter, and food supplies, in line with the directives of the Egyptian President.
For his part, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati expressed his deep appreciation to President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi for his continuous support to Lebanon, both politically and humanitarian, praising Egypt's standing by Lebanon during this critical time and for sending a new shipment of humanitarian aid today.
For his part, Lebanese PM Mikati stated that the Egyptian Foreign Minister conveyed a message of solidarity to him from Egypt’s leadership, government, and people, reaffirming Egypt's commitment to providing all forms of support to Lebanon.
In a short statement, the Lebanese PM said that he underscored in the meeting with the Egyptian official the priority of a peaceful resolution based on the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, stressing that Israel must be held accountable for its complete application.
Lebanon, he noted, rejects any conditions that would bypass Resolution 1701 and is committed to strengthening its army’s presence in the south in coordination with UNIFIL forces.
Lebanon’s primary concern, he added, is to end the ongoing Israeli aggression against Lebanese territories and to stop the mass atrocities being committed by the Israeli forces.
Foreign Minister Bou Habib
FM Abdelatty also reviewed in a separate meeting with his Lebanese counterpart, Abdallah Bou Habib, during his visit to Beirut Egypt's diligent efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire, contain the escalating developments in Lebanon, and work towards achieving de-escalation
The Spokesperson added that the Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of implementing Security Council Resolution 1701, including empowering the Lebanese Army and its return to the south.
Minister Bou Habib expressed Lebanon’s gratitude to Egypt for its ongoing support for Lebanon and its people, as well as its efforts toward achieving a ceasefire.
He reaffirmed Lebanon’s firm stance on the importance of an immediate ceasefire and the full and parallel implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
He also highlighted the Lebanese government’s readiness to strengthen the presence of the Lebanese army south of the Litani River and to extend state authority across southern Lebanon in cooperation with UNIFIL forces.
Maronite Patriarch and Grand Mufti
During his visit to Beirut, Egypt’s FM Badr Abdelatty called the Maronite Patriarch, His Beatitude Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros al-Rahi where he reaffirmed Egypt's full support for Lebanon in the current circumstances, emphasizing Egypt's commitment to Lebanon's sovereignty and unity, as well as the importance Egypt places on strengthening the role of Lebanon's state institutions.
The Egyptian foreign minister also reviewed all the efforts being made by Egypt on both the political and humanitarian fronts, emphasizing that Egypt relies on His Beatitude's spiritual role to preserve civil peace and Lebanon's national unity.
Abdelatty also engaged in a conversation with the Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic, Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian via telephone.
Minister Abdelatty emphasized Egypt’s full support for Lebanon in the current circumstances and discussed with the Grand Mufti efforts to end the presidential vacancy, alleviate the humanitarian impact of the displacement crisis, and other matters related to the historical relationship between Dar Al-Ifta and Egypt and Al-Azhar.
From his side, Lebanon’s grand mufti affirmed Egypt's historic role in Lebanon, emphasizing that Egypt, its leadership, and its people have always supported Lebanon’s sovereignty, independence, and Arab identity.
He noted that Lebanon remains committed to solidarity and cooperation with Egypt and all Arab nations, distancing itself from alliances and conflicts that threaten Lebanon and the Arab region.
Sheikh Derian highlighted the significance of the foreign minister's visit during such critical times for Lebanon, praising Egypt and President El-Sisi's prominent Arab and international standing.
"We sensed from Minister Abdelatty Egypt’s and other Arab nations' sincere desire to find solutions to halt Israeli aggression on Lebanon, preserve national unity, and safeguard Lebanon’s institutions and stability." He added in his statement
The grand mufti expressed his gratitude to Minister Abdelatty for Egypt’s efforts in maintaining Lebanon’s stability, security, and the safety of its people. He also extended his greetings to President El-Sisi, the Egyptian government, and the people, appreciating Egypt's fraternal support.
